Next Generation ( Embrace or Decline)
For the past recent years hip-hop has been dominated by headline artist such as Weezy , Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, and Jay-Z. However, with the increasing popularity of the internet artist are being equipped with different outlets in order to have their music reach its fan base. Some of the new artist that are creating alot of buzz include Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Wale, and B.O.B. Being unique in Hip-Hop can be a difficult task but these artist have found different ways to express their experiences through a variety of electronic sounds and live instruments. Speaking from personal experience, the hip-hop culture tends to dumb down its music by displaying images of money, cars, clothes, and exotic women. These things are nice to have but I feel our experience of Hip-Hop should be taken back to its roots where issues of substance were being discussed. For example, on Wale's new album Attention Deficit there is a song called "90210" which depicts the lifestyle of Hollywood celebrity's and how average females tend to potray similar lifestyle based on what they see on reality shows. In addition, while the disscussion of key issues is important overall talent is a necessity. B.O.B for example is a constant reminder of talent having the ability to rap, sing and play the acoustic guitar is what will keep him prevalent in the game and sustain longevity. Songs that I recommend include "No Mans Land" and "Satelite". Kid Cudi is one of the most innovative artist of this generation who receives alot of ipod love due to his distinct flow and the genuine flavor that he brings to the game. He's not afraid to step out the box and do something different no matter how he is perceived, also he doesn't try to be something that he is not. In hip-hop alot of artist tend to play the gangster image when in reality thats not appealing to all audiences, you get more respect just being yourself. Hip-Hop has seen its ups and downs but I feel these select artist are capable of bringing a much needed variety to the game. We have been programmed to accept music that emphasize on fast cars and living the "rockstar" lifestyle that we lose sight of what our true values are. Embrace or Decline these fresh new faces....... The choice is yours!!!

Drake, Wiz Khalifa, and Wale are not I would consider that bring something new to the table. Drake subjects he talks in his songs are not any different from what wayne talks about, money, cars, and women. Wiz Khalifa and Wale are good artist but in my opinion they are not someone I would go out of my way to listen to.
ReplyDeleteI look at drake in the opion that he is out to not only make money but relate his songs and rap about todays events. He wants to make sure that everyone can relate to his music. Another thing that i like about drake is that he has taken over hard and soft beats. Who can forget " best i ever had" and " Im going in." These are two different beats but at the same time he uses the same flow. Antoher thing i see in his songs is his ability to make sing along type lyrics.
ReplyDeleteI think Drake is original because he has his own flow and a lot of rappers lately seem to try to imitate his flow. Young new rappers in specific. As far as lyrics I dont think the rap game will ever be the same because there is no longer a message. If your song has a messege it has to be one hell of a messege for it to be a hit. The club songs is whats in and will be for a while.
ReplyDeleteAgree. I respect new artist that dont shy away from their tru self. Niggas now a days hear a sound they like nd try to blend their shit wit it. I respect lyrics... a song is 4 mins fuck a hook. i need to feel the artist nd those 3 verses. Niggas worry about club bangers nd a quick buck 2 much.
ReplyDeleteI think Drake, Wiz, and BOB is the future without a doubt. They have the hip hop ball in their court , everything falls on how they perform in the next severals months to see if hip hop is ready to take a new age.
ReplyDeleteAll of the new artist are definitely bringing something new to the game. Fresh new sounds, flows, deliveries, etc. But they still all talk about the same stuff. Drugs, having money (they all get it differently), and girls. Even Kid Cudi. He gets clowned and talked about because he has a unique style, but at the end of a day, he raps about the same stuff. Gettin high, gettin girls, partyin, he just doesnt sell drugs.. So hip hop has changed forreal, its just past the drug dealer faze, and the new rappers still arent saying much. Wale does his best to make some sensible music, but is anybody really listening?...... HIP HOP IS DEAD!!! #thatisall
